Types of Roof Underlayment

• Asphalt-saturated felt. Before the introduction of synthetic products, most roofers relied on asphalt-saturated felt as the primary roofing material. It’s still a reliable underlayment material due to its flexibility and water resistance. It is also the most affordable type of underlayment.

• Non-bitumen synthetic. It’s the most common type of underlayment used today. It offers better water resistance than asphalt-saturated felt and is designed for full application on the entire roof.

• Rubberized asphalt. It’s the most expensive underlayment material because it contains higher percentages of asphalt and rubber polymers. Rubberized asphalt is completely waterproof.
