3 Things That Humidity Can Do to Your Roof

Humidity is the concentration of water vapor that is present in the air and, as we all know, water is your roof’s number one natural enemy. Needless to say, too much humidity outside is bad news for your roof. In today’s post, your trusted roofing contractors over at Barnett Roofing explains how too much humidity can negatively impact your roof.

1. Mold and Rot

When there is too much moisture in your attic, you can put your home and your health at serious risk. Not too many people stop to think about the humidity levels in their attic even though they really should. If you allow your attic to become too humid, you are sure to encounter mold and rot problems that can compromise the structural integrity of your roof.

2. Water Droplet Buildup

If you notice small water droplets building up on your roof, then you definitely have a condensation issue on your hands. If you find that this only occurs during the hot summer months, then you likely have a waterproofing problem in the assembly. If it happens during the winter, it means that the humid air inside your home is making contact with the colder areas in the upper levels of your home near the roof. Reducing the interior humidity and updating your weatherproofing can solve this problem, but if the issue persists, it is recommended that you call in a roof repair expert to conduct a thorough inspection.

3. Wet Insulation

Humidity can not only negatively impact your roof, but your insulation as well. Once moisture from the roof starts to saturate the insulation, you will need to replace it otherwise it will lead to warping and structural damage to your assembly.

From roof inspections to roof replacement and everything in between, you can trust in the experts over at Barnett Roofing to exceed all your expectations.
